In the May 5, 2005 issue
of San Diego Daily Transcript, the
newspaper examined some of the reasons why
more Fortune 100 companies rely on the Wilson,
Petty, Kosmo & Turner's diverse
attorneys for their legal needs. A partial
reprint of the article appears below:
In the heart of downtown
San Diego is a small law firm with big clients,
big litigation wins and a big ranking: Wilson
Petty Kosmo & Turner LLP is one of the
largest women-owned firms in the United States.
Wilson Petty Kosmo &
Turner has also earned national recognition
for its extensive litigation practice. Fortune
500 companies regularly turn to the firm for
representation in complex litigation matters,
including class actions, in cases ranging
from product liability and employment litigation
to healthcare and media law. The firm’s
client roster includes General Motors, PETCO
Animal Supplies, Inc., Vons, Johnson &
Johnson, Ford Motor Company, Shell Oil Company
and Evans Hotels, to name just a few.
“We are proud that
clients turn to us with high stakes, complex
litigation,” says Partner Vickie E.
Turner.
Turner, whose practice includes
product liability and First Amendment law,
was included on the list of Top 20 Defense
Wins for 2003 (compiled by VerdictSearch)
for obtaining a defense verdict for Ford Motor
Company in Sacramento. If the verdict had
gone the other way, the litigation floodgates
could have opened for Ford, costing the company
extensive time and resources.
Turner also recently successfully
defended another automobile manufacturer in
a product liability trial in Los Angeles involving
a wrongful death allegation.
For more than a decade Petty
has represented Fortune 100 companies such
as Union Carbide, Johnson & Johnson and
Wal-Mart in state and federal court mass tort
drug and medical device litigation. She is
currently retailer liaison counsel in the
state-wide consolidated pharmaceutical litigation.
She has been national discovery counsel for
retailers in the phenylpropanolamine (PPA)
litigation.
Other high profile litigation
that WPK&T has handled includes serving
as regional counsel for General Motors product
liability cases covering a 13-state region
and Ford/Firestone tire litigation covering
a six-state region and serving on the steering
committee for the state-wide litigation and
chair of the defendants’ briefing committee
for Johnson & Johnson latex glove cases.
